A lump at the crown will show through the wig — and it'll drive you nuts all day. Put a nylon wig cap over the braids and tuck in any loose ends.
Identify the adjustment hardware supplied with the exact cap. Start loose. Position the wig first, then tighten gradually according to the manufacturer instructions.
Check the back of the cap for a drawstring or elastic band. If it has a drawstring, pull it fully loose. You'll tighten everything at Step 5.
This is where the mirror earns its keep. Hold the wig at both sides (ear area) and tilt your head forward slightly.

Now reach behind your head and find the drawstring or elastic band at the nape. Pull it snug — but not tight. You're aiming for "secure headband" tightness, not "ponytail headache at 3pm" tight.
Move your head gently and inspect the fit. If the wig shifts, reassess the size and hardware rather than overtightening. Loosen or remove it immediately if you feel pain, pulling, numbness or a headache.
Drawstring tip: The newer UNice-style drawstrings let you micro-adjust — you can pull just a millimeter at a time. Use this. The difference between "secure" and "headache" is often just one tiny notch.
