How We Test Wigs

Our Testing Philosophy

Most wig "reviews" online are paid promotions: every wig is "amazing," the photos are from the brand, and everything gets 5 stars. That's advertising disguised as advice. We do things differently:

• We buy every wig we review — no free products, no brand sponsorships
• 30-day minimum wear test — no wig gets reviewed after one wear
• Multi-skin-tone panel — lace blend is evaluated by at least 3 women with different skin tones
• Real-life conditions — every wig faces wind, workouts, humidity, and 8-hour workdays

The 30-Day Test Protocol

Every wig goes through this exact protocol before we publish a review:

1. Unboxing & First Impressions (Day 1) — We document packaging, initial texture, pre-plucked quality, pre-bleached knots, and any factory smell. First install attempt timed: can a beginner do this in under 5 minutes?
2. Daily Wear (Days 1-30) — Worn for a full workday (8+ hours). Conditions vary: indoor office, outdoor errands, gym (if applicable), windy days, humid days.
3. Daily Brush Test (Every Morning) — 10 strokes with a wig brush. We collect and weigh shed hair weekly using a digital scale (0.01g precision).
4. Lace Blend Evaluation (Day 7, 14, 30) — Photographed on 3 different skin tones under natural light. Evaluated for: lace visibility, knot visibility, melt line, and hairline realism.
5. Wash Test (Day 15) — Washed with sulfate-free wig shampoo per manufacturer instructions. Post-wash: texture change, shedding increase, curl pattern retention.
6. Final Assessment (Day 30) — Total shed weight, overall durability, comfort rating, and value-for-money score calculated.

Scoring Criteria

Every wig is scored 1-5 in five categories. Final score is a weighted average:

What We Don't Do

• ❌ No sponsored reviews — we decline all brand offers for free products in exchange for reviews
• ❌ No paid rankings — brands cannot pay to be featured or ranked higher
• ❌ No AI-generated content — every review is written by a real person who wore the wig
• ❌ No review removal — we never take down a negative review at a brand's request
• ❌ No brand-provided photos — all photos in our reviews are real wear photos taken by our testers

Editorial Independence

We are not cosmetologists. We don't claim professional credentials. We're women who wear wigs and test them honestly. Our independence is the foundation of everything we publish:

• We buy every wig at retail price — no brand relationships
• Rankings are based solely on test results, not commission rates
• If a wig is #1, it earned it through 30 days of real wear — not because the brand paid more

Limitations

• Single tester per wig — Each wig is worn by one person for 30 days. Fit and comfort can vary by head size and shape.
• Sample of one — We test one unit of each wig. Manufacturing consistency can vary between batches.
• Hair type specificity — Our testers have various natural hair textures, but results may differ for your specific hair type.
• Climate variance — Testing is primarily in temperate conditions. Extreme humidity or dry climates may produce different results.
